“HAPPY HOURS”…. Does that ring a
bell?????......Well …Yes, you guessed it right. So this is something that
happened in one of “those”.
Summer was in its last and best shines those days.
So did we choose to unwind the day in one of the best ways possible and
available. Planning started as usual during lunch time. Lots of talks happened,
a few calls wasted, but we are used to these wastages. It was tea time, calls
again, thank god, this time a plan was in place. Fully charged and back to
work. The last hours of work seemed to be never ending and was moving at snail’s
pace. I managed to finish my work, it was already 5:55p.m and I could see the
sun getting ready to take a dip in the ocean. And there comes the
ringggggg......
This
was a new lounge bar and the most happening one in the city those days. We were
told about the richness in the ambience, the chinky waitresses, and the biggest
attraction - happy hours, buy one get one free !!! We decided to meet at this
place by 6:30, as the happiness lasts only for an hour and half.
We
met, we sat, starters served, chilled beer flowing into the mugs. The first sip
"effect" needs no explanantions I guess. It was Kishore Kumar's,
Rafi's, Jagjit Singh's,Pankaj Udhas's instrumentals that filled in the lounge.
We spoke less!!! Round One over and we decided to do a long walk to the
terrace, which gave a good view of the rush hour, all lit up. We smelled rain,
and a cool breeze had started off. Now we started talking, our usual old
selves.Few minutes on, back to our seats. The "freebie" was served.
Couple of sips, this chinky gal walked to our table for the last order, if any,
as the last thirty minutes had started ticking. We, in our most humble manner,
thanked her for the service and asked to get us the bill. The mugs were now
half filled or half empty, when we saw few guests walking in, fully drenched.
The rain was on, and the bill was on our table. The payment was done, and we
thought we should take a look at the rain, and come back and finish it off. We
walked again to the terrace. It was pouring thick and loud. Sprinkles on our
face and we stood there enjoying the first rain, waving good bye to the summer.
Ten
more minutes of happiness left, we walked back to our seats. For a second we
could not spot our seat. Had the beer already started making us “happy”? No
ways.... it was something else?
Lo
and behold…. the table had been cleared. We walked towards the seat, just to
see the chinky gal standing, with a blushing grin, holding her hands in the
"namaste" mode, whispering "sorry"
..."sorry"..."sorry"......
What
had happened? one of us asked.
"Aap
log nahi gaye?" , she asked, with that grin still on.
"No,
we were at the terrace, enjoying the rain", I said, and looked at my
friends. I could see two sad, mercy-seeking faces. ( I dont know how I looked
at that time!!! )
This
chinky gal was like Oh no, what have i done, what will i tell these guys, how
am i going to convince them....but when we started to laugh at ourselves and on
the whole situation, especially when that gal was still standing in the namaste
mode, she said...
"Manie
socha aapka pett (stomach) bar gaya, aur aap log chale gaye" !!!
This
time out, we all had a good laugh together and we started walking our way out.
As we walked out, it all looked as though it was a DREAM that we didnt want to
rmemeber again!!!!!!!
